Sylvan Lake 2

Sylvan Lake, Michigan 2005

The concept for this new residence combines the primary form with a series of smaller scale forms using two different gestures folding into one another to form a spatially unique structure. The interior is organized with public areas within the primary form and more intimate smaller spaces allowing flexible programming.

As the smaller scale elements pull away from the primary form more perimeter wall is created which helps define space without interior walls and allows more exterior wall for glazing. The bedrooms on the upper level are contained along the south side defined by the smaller scale forms. The shared spaces are on the north side within the primary form. The contrasting exterior colors are chosen from the surrounding water and landscape to define the two languages.
